Experian.com employs McAfee Secure, Norton Secured and other security measures in order to ensure that a customer's personal information remains private and secure. If Experian's system is unable to identify a customer's identity, Experian may route the customer through a manual identification process. That may involve a private online access code being sent via the U.S. mail to the address in your credit file.

All cloak and dagger-like, but necessary in this nasty world of identity theft.

Experian uses a variety of security systems to safeguard your information. there is actual physical security for their facilities and limited access to critical areas id strenouslly enforced.

They comply with all laws and applicable self-regulatory guidelines. Experian regularly communicateswith consumer advocates, clients, consumers, government officials and industry associations about their privacy concerns. They also do not resell or provide your personal information to any third-party marketers. Even their own employees in customer Support, do not see your credit report unless you give them specific permission to do so. You can acess the Experian Privacy Policy for full details about how they protect your information.

Now as to using the Experian website, I think it is safe as far as your information is protected. But be aware that if you sign up for the "free" credit report that you read the fine print. there have been consumer complaints stating that when theyb sign up for the "free" credit report that they are then automatically enrolled in to an annual plan which automatically charges their bank account a fee each month.

In conclusion I would say that the privacy policies are geared to protect the consumers information but their online marketing practices are less then stellar.
